Daniel Ortega has been sworn in as president of Nicaragua for the third consecutive time after his party won 71 of the 92 seats in the parliament.
His critics have called the result a farce after one opposition party was banned from participating in the vote.
Ortega has been in power for the past 20 years and with his wife joining him as vice president, there is concern his rule could become more authoritarian.
Al Jazeera’s John Holman reports from the capital, Managua.
